R.•.E.•. Gerald F. Irwin is celebrating his 36th year as a Mason. He has been married for 34 years to Pat, who is a laboratory manager with GE Global Research, and they have a daughter, Kelly, who is 26 and is a Registered Nurse and studying to become a Nurse Practitioner.
Gerry is an Ordained Elder and Deacon and an active member of the Knox Reformed Church and is active in the church’s music ministry.
Professionally, he has pursued a career in the field of Information Technology for 36 years and is a mainframe systems programmer with the New York State Department of Labor at the Department's headquarters in Albany.
Gerry has been a member of the Masonic Fraternity since 1976, serving as Master of three different Lodges in two different Districts. He has also served Grand Lodge as Assistant Grand Lecturer and Grand Steward. He is currently serving as a member of the Grand Lodge Committee on Masonic Benevolence.
Gerry was exalted in Ravena Chapter #312 of the then Tenth District in 1978, which is now part of Ancient Temple Chapter #5 in Albany, subsequently serving as High Priest, AGL, and DDGHP. He was appointed Grand Master of the Second Veil in 2006 and is currently serving as the Grand Lecturer of the Grand Chapter, State of New York, RAM. He is also a member of the newly-formed Harmony Chapter, UD, in Chatham, NY.
Active in the entire York Rite, he has presided over all of the major bodies and in 1987 was made a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honor (KYCH). He also holds the Order of the Purple Cross and is a past presiding officer of several of the appendant bodies. He has also presided over two Scottish Rite bodies in the Valley of Albany, and holds the Meritorious Service Award presented by the New York State Council of Deliberation.
Gerry and Pat are serving Eastern Star again this year, Gerry as Patron of Helderberg Chapter (eighth year in a row) and as District Grand Lecturer of the Albany-Rensselaer-Schenectady District (third time) and Pat as Treasurer of Helderberg Chapter. Gerry was also recently elected and installed as Royal Patron of Capital City Court #15, Order of the Amaranth.
In what little spare time he has, Gerry enjoys performing music in almost any form. He is a member of Traditional Strings (a traditional music “jam” band), the Knox Town Band (tuba and baritone player), and the up and coming local country and western band, Renee Lussier and BranchWater (playing bass guitar) and would still like to play one day in Nashville.
